Deputy Safeguarding Officer

Could You Help Keep Our Church Safe?
We’re looking for someone to work alongside Cheryl our Parish Safeguarding Officer. The role would be a  Deputy Parish Safeguarding Officer (or two!) to join our team.
You’d work alongside our Parish Safeguarding Officer to help make our church a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

This is a vital role in the life of our parish — not about catching people out, but about creating a culture where care, safety, and good practice come naturally.

What’s involved?

  • Supporting the Lead Safeguarding Officer with advice and record-keeping

  • Helping respond to safeguarding concerns appropriately

  • Being a friendly, approachable point of contact for anyone with worries

  • Attending occasional safeguarding training

You don’t need to be an expert as there is training available — just someone who is trustworthy, organised, and cares about people’s safety. Full training and support will be given, and you’ll work as part of a team.

If you’d like to know more, please speak to our Parish Safeguarding Officer Cheryl Bennet safeguarding@smhr.org.uk  or our Vicar Tamsin Merchant vicar@smhr.org.uk

Youth Worker

Are you a passionate, spiritually mature, love Jesus and an enthusiastic individual with a heart for young people? St Mary’s Hornsey Rise & St Andrew's Whitehall Park are seeking a dedicated Youth Worker to join their team!

This is a full-time, 35-hour-per-week role. But it’s more than just a job; it's an invitation to nurture and inspire young people. You'll be at the heart of developing exciting, vibrant, creative, and gospel-centred youth ministries for 11–17 year olds, both within the churches and in partnership with the North Islington Youth Ministry initiative.

Your responsibilities will include growing existing youth ministries, reaching young people outside the church, discipling youth in engaging ways, and building relationships with schools and families.

We're looking for someone flexible, collaborative, and missionally minded, committed to Christian discipleship and excited to serve a diverse community. The salary for this 3-year fixed-term position is £28,000 – £32,000, dependent on experience, with 28 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.

If you have experience working with young people aged 11-17, are a confident communicator, and possess a warm, friendly approach, we encourage you to apply!

While formal youth work training or a degree in Theology is desirable, a willingness to undertake training is welcomed and supported.

Join a supportive, mission-driven team and make a lasting impact in the lives of young people and their families!

We follow Safer Recruitment guidelines and believe in creating a safe and nurturing environment for children, young people, and vulnerable adults. All appointments are subject to safer recruitment procedures, including an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

We believe in equality, diversity and inclusion and welcome all applicants who share the same values.

If you’d like to know more, please contact us contact@smhr.org.uk and we will send out more information. If you would like to have a conversation about this role we would love to chat to you. Please email us and one of the team will be in touch. We currently have our curate Shawn, and our Minster Lead Chris or our Vicar Tamsin who could all chat further, depending on your and their availability.
